A combination of two or more selective, differential and/or enriched agar culture media formulations separately contained within a single petri dish (commonly referred to as a split plate) or dip slide and intended to be used for the simultaneous growth, selective isolation and/or differentiation of microorganisms from a clinical specimen.

An agar culture medium supplemented with nutrient-rich substances (e.g., blood, serum) intended to enhance the growth and isolation of fastidious microorganisms from a clinical specimen and/or culture isolate. It is typically used to cultivate microorganisms that would not otherwise grow on general-purpose agar medium.

An agar culture medium intended to be used to promote the selective growth of a microbial species with specific characteristics (e.g., antibiotic resistance, ability to utilize, synthesize specific metabolites) and/or distinguish between microbial species growing on the same medium by appearance (e.g., colour, shape, growth pattern). It typically contains substances to inhibit the growth of commensal or contaminating microorganisms (e.g., antimicrobials, dyes, salts) and/or dyes or chemical indicators for differentiation.
