An assembly of electrically-powered devices designed to be used by a healthcare professional in a clinical setting for intermittent or continuous assessment of several vital physiologic parameters [e.g., electrocardiogram (ECG), noninvasive blood pressure (NIBP), pulse rate, temperature, haemoglobin oxygen saturation (SpO2)]. It includes both physiological parameter sensors, probes, and/or electrodes (e.g., ECG electrodes, blood pressure cuff) and processing hardware with dedicated software. It typically incorporates a monitoring screen, but may alternatively be connected to an off-the-shelf device for display; it is not intended to be worn on the body.

A mains electricity (AC-powered) bedside device designed to measure and display a non-ambulatory patient's respiratory functions. Measurements include concentration of respiratory gas components [e.g., carbon dioxide (CO2), oxygen (O2)] and/or continuous monitoring of the inspiration/expiration cycle including respiration rate, air volume, and cessation of breathing (apnoea). The device may also measure airway pressure (Paw) and oesophageal pressure (Pes). It is typically equipped with audible and/or visual alarms that are triggered when respiratory parameters drop below or exceed pre-set limits.

A small unit dedicated to the measurement of various gas concentrations, e.g., anaesthetic agents, oxygen (O2), carbon dioxide (CO2), in inspired and expired air obtained through a sampling tube connected to a main respiratory channel (mainstream) or a side-channel (sidestream) of a breathing circuit. It is designed to operate as part of a patient monitoring system enhancing the function of this system (the parent device). The module automatically plugs into the parent device when the user places it into a standardized slot and the parent device then operates as a mainframe computer displaying the parameters measured and provided by this module.
